Newsletter #4 – April 26

The final, frantic push before publication, and world-building rabbit holes.

Hello!
March/April has been “low key” for me (in speech marks as it appears to be the new buzz world of my teenage daughter, who uses it completely out of context). I underwent knee replacement surgery, and made the slightly mad decision to have both done at the same time.
For that reason, I’ve been recovering rather than doing. I’d hoped that the forced inactivity would mean loads of hours for writing, but it hasn’t proved to be the case. The painkillers are pretty mega, and the combination of their effect and generally not feeling ideal has resulted in a very low word count.
I’m releasing a book! Three actually!
That said, I’ve not done nothing. I’ve finalised my release schedule for the Cambria Trilogy, which will be available exclusively on Amazon, including Kindle Unlimited. They release in eBook, Paperback and Hardback simultaneously. I’ve been working through final proof-reading checks and I think I’m done. It always amazes me how I (actually more likely my girlfriend) can still find the odd typo on the 15th pass.

Book 1 – The Paschal Moon – Releases on 1st May, and you can buy it HERE.
Book 2 – The Poisoned Valleys – Releases on 1st June, and you can buy it HERE.
Book 3 – The Last Sibyl – Releases on 1st July, and you can buy it HERE.

Before those dates, the link will take you to a pre-order for the eBook. After, you can buy any format you want. Those links are amazon.co.uk, but it’s also available in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and lots of other places too.   If you do buy it, thank you! If you like it, PLEASE leave me a review on Amazon. I’m a new guy at this, and algorithms are uncaring, hard-nosed bastards. Hopefully I’ve softened you up with a hospital pic, so pretty please 🙂   I received my first author copies of the books recently, and it was such a lovely moment, actually holding the thing in your hands. I felt rather emotional. I blame the knee drugs. How cool though, look!

Icelandic Magic
As well as trying to get the Cambria books ready for release, I’ve been slowly chipping away at the next project. I haven’t written much, a mere 6,000 words thus far, but that’s because the vast majority of the work at this stage is in world-building (plus the drugs). It’s a story set in an alternate past, and while there are many things in my medeval world that are identical to actual history, but there is equally a huge amount to create from scratch.   I do love it, actually, it’s one of my favourite bits to writing. I can happily go off down a rabbit hole of some random facet of this new world. There’s a wedding scene at the beginning, for example, and I spent an entire morning reading and leaning about celtic weddings and rituals, which inevitably lead me to other interesting subjects, like druids and stone circles, and so on and on… I love history, so it’s a bit of a curse.   Next month, I’ll outline some detail on this new series of books.
Thank you for reading, it’s much appreciated. Feel free to reply, I’m always interested to know what you think 🙂
PS…. Buy my book! 🙂
PPS… I may break my once-a-month rule for newsletters on release day, just as a final plug. Apologies in advance.
